Senior Manager, Process Development (Chemical Engineering)
10X Genomics
About the role:
10x is looking for an outstanding Sr Manager to join the Process Development group and lead a team of chemical engineers in the development and transfer of new processes from concept to full implementation in a commercial manufacturing facility. The Process Development team interfaces between early stage R&D and Production is deeply embedded in both organizations. This position works cross-functionally with multiple groups such as Chemistry, Microfluidics, Molecular Biology, Engineering, QC, Production, and Supply Chain. Candidates must have a strong chemical engineering background and be able to independently and creatively establish a broad range of production processes at commercial scale in a full Production facility. This is a lead from the bench role. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments. Previous industry experience successfully commercializing and supporting similar processes is essential.
Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, succeed in communicating with all levels within the organization and provide immediate contribution.
What you will be doing:
- Lead a team responsible for commercializing new production processes required to produce 10x reagents and consumables.
- Build, develop, and lead a team of chemical engineers responsible for a broad range of processes spanning polymer manufacturing, surface coatings, semiconductor, filtration, and liquid handling production processes and the associated analytical methods.
- Guide development plans to ensure robust manufacturing processes through use of FMEA and risk assessment, guardbanding, material selection, and QC strategy.
- Direct experimentation to develop a first principles understanding of underlying reaction mechanisms and interactions. Drive root cause analysis of novel failure modes, and ensure rapid implementation of appropriate solutions.
- Scale up and develop alternative production processes to meet demand as 10x Genomics continues to grow.
- Drive QC strategy through the use of standard analytical methods or development of novel analytical methods to ensure processes are in control.
- Communicate and present results clearly and contribute data for making critical design decisions through accurate record of experimental details, documentation, and presentations.
- Sustain and improve on market products for reliability, yield, vendor quality, continuity of supply, and part obsolescence.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Chemical engineering, Process Chemistry or related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or life science related industry.
- Proven ability to lead a process development team
- Strong process development experience demonstrating control of manufacturing processes through appropriate Process Design and QC methods.
- Ability to integrate a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines.
- Ability to design meaningful experiments and in depth analysis of results. Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP, is beneficial.
- Ability to develop, validate and transfer processes to in-house manufacturing or OEM vendors.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to travel internationally as needed.
- Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, with a compelling technology, and taking products and processes to the next level.
