Position: Medical Assistant/Scribe/Phlebotomist
This position is to scribe for a medical provider three days a week, draw blood and enter lab orders into the laboratory computer one day a week, and work two after-hours shifts a week as a medical assistant. (40 hours/week)

Duties and Responsibilities (MA):

  • Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance
  • Maintains medical supplies inventory and performing preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary
  • Assists with office procedures
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
  • Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements

Duties and Responsibilities (Scribe):

  • Prepares and assembles medical record documentation/charts for medical provider
  • Enters the patient room with the physician during patient visit to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing electronic medical record application
  • Updates patient history and other pertinent health information in the patient record
  • Prepares and sends all documentation to physician for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures
  • Complies with policies, including those relating to HIPAA
  • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned

Duties and Responsibilities (Phlebotomist):

  • Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens and preparing specimens for laboratory testing
  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information on the order to the lab computer to ensure correct billing information is on file with the lab
  • Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
  • Collects urine as needed for testing
  • Labels and processes culture specimens
  • Maintains specimen integrity by following collection procedures as outlined by the lab
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
  • Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the medical provider, nurses station, or reference laboratory for further clarification
  • Maintains an organized and clean workspace

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • 1+ years in a medical office required
  • Experience with EMR (electronic medical records) required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Prior experience drawing blood required
  • First aid certification required
  • Professional references required
  • Medical scribe experience preferred
  • Minimum of 60 WPM preferred
  • Phlebotomist certification preferred
  • Medical Assisting Certification preferred
