The State Policy Senior Analyst will lead all programmatic operations in a portfolio of Aledade markets (4-5 markets/Senior Analyst) including being responsible for the implementation and adoption of programmatic activities, sustaining practice engagement, and ultimately influencing legislative environments to be more conducive to primary care sustainability. This will be done by managing market policy operations, sharing knowledge with member practices and Aledade teams, and engaging with external stakeholders across the spectrum of seniority and influence, including state and federal legislators. This role requires a deep situational awareness of the policy space as well as the ability to discern customer needs and collaborate across teams and audiences.
We are flexible with respect to geographic location, and the ideal candidate will be comfortable working remotely/work from home within the US or be based from Bethesda, MD office. Western US region candidates are strongly preferred.
Primary Duties:
Analysis of state political and policy environment:
- Continually track environmental developments in real-time, including active legislation during sessions and relevant news developments. Utilizes judgment and specialized knowledge to determine what developments are deemed “important”; shares accordingly with relevant audiences in a digestible format. Advises Aledade internal team and external stakeholders on pertinent questions related to each of their designated states.
Manage the practice and physician policy committee of each state:
- Operations: manage all communication, educational materials, and advocacy opportunities between committee members (Aledade ACO partners) and stakeholders, with a moderate level of guidance. This includes scheduling, meeting facilitation, prepping testimonies/talking points for members, etc.
- Thought leadership: regularly include physician input in articles and media pieces that strengthen overall advocacy efforts. This includes using expert knowledge to write blogs, op-eds, and other media pieces that highlight physician involvement and identified committee priorities.
- Collaboration: ensure and facilitate ongoing, monthly collaboration between policy committee members with minimal oversight. This collaboration will include virtual and in-person meetings that the analyst will need to utilize independent judgment in identifying appropriate audience members, and subsequently planning and hosting diverse audience members including physicians, practice administrators, influential stakeholders, policymakers, and Aledade internal leadership/Field Team staff.
Stakeholder engagement:
- Actively pursue, develop, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders of both high visibility and influence, including senior and/or executive-level leaders in payer groups and statewide associations; government officials including federal and state-level policymakers; partner practice and clinic physicians and administrative leadership. Meetings and communication are completed proactively and with minimal oversight.
Programmatic development:
- Partners with internal and external stakeholders to lead larger department-wide projects regarding federal and state-level initiatives that impact Aledade’s work and business operations (e.g., researching and understanding the implications of lobbying initiatives).
Advocacy strategy:
- Thought partner to internal Policy team and market leadership, applying understanding of environmental factors and levers of influence to positively shape the legislative landscape to have a material impact on the longevity of Aledade partner practices and Aledade’s overall business model. Each Senior Analyst is charged with being a SME of a federal initiative/policy priority.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, business, or other relevant fields is required
- 3+ years of relevant work experience; a Master's in a relevant field can serve as a substitute for work experience
Preferred KSA’s:
- Comfortable tackling ambiguous problems with a high level of autonomy
- A strong writer and able to verbally communicate effectively; comfortable leading presentations
- Internships or work experience in government or health care settings is a plus
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated to produce work that meets high standards
- Highly organized and proactive in raising questions around clarity, prioritization, blockers, and other points to drive assigned tasks forward
- A collaborative team player with a roll-up your sleeves mentality
- Ability to travel 4-5x per year to assigned markets, team retreats, and HQ
- Ability to hold flexible work hours to accommodate physician/practice schedules
