Position: Medical Assistant
Part-time to full-time Medical Assistant needed for busy medical office. This position will be part-time but will increase to full-time in January.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Identifies and greets patients courteously whether in person or on the telephone, and answers or refers inquires.
  • Verify patient information by reviewing and recording medical history and current medications; documenting reason for visit.
  • Prepares for patient visits by directing or accompanying patient to the exam room; providing patient gowns and drapes, assisting patients with changing (as needed); attaining needed equipment or supplies.
  • Assist the provider by taking vital signs including but not limited to height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, temperature and head circumference (if under 1 year of age).
  • Give injections, as directed and documents in patient record (medication, dose, route and site).
  • Draws blood and sends to lab as directed. Inputs pertinent information into lab computer (name, address, insurance information, and appropriate lab codes with matching diagnoses codes).
  • Performing in-house lab test (Pregnancy test, strep test, PT/INR, Glucose, HGBA1C, etc) and documents in chart.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patients and special procedures and assist with procedures as needed.
  • Wrap, sterilize, and properly store instruments and other equipment.
  • Clean rooms and equipment after each patient use.
  • Provide patient education as needed. Provide resources to patients to assist with lifestyle management.
  • Maintain clinical supplies and anticipate needs; verifying receipt of items ordered.
  • Assist providers with completion of special forms.
  • Assist providers with call backs to patients and other callers.
  • Screens patient calls for the most effective patient care.
  • Perform prior authorizations for medications/procedures as needed.
  • Filling in for absent co-workers and participates in various community events while representing organization as needed.
  • Maintains all certifications and licensure as required by law and policy; participates in continuing education as appropriate for job requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Work Experience Requirement:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer a graduate of a formal Medical Assisting Program, with a minimum of one year of experience.
  • Prefer that he/she have their certification as a Medical Office Assistant.
  • Must be neat and well-groomed and have a courteous, pleasant manner.
  • Must be able to put patients at ease and explain provider(s) instructions.
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must respect and maintain privacy and dignity of patients; assure confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work.
Working Conditions: Clean, non-smoking environment.
Professional Dress/Attire.
Office hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 AM – 4: 30 PM, Tuesday 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM.
Must be prepared to multi-task and have good time management skills and flexibility in hours and assignments required.
Position requires a lot of standing and walking.
Salary: Dependent on experience.
