About the position

Altruist is entering an exciting phase, and we're looking for a Staff Database Administrator to join our Altruist team.

Please note: This is a hybrid position with on-site requirements of 3x per week in San Francisco.

What you’ll do

  • Database Optimization: Regularly review, refine, and optimize SQL queries across Postgres, MySQL, and Snowflake platforms to maintain peak performance.
  • Preventive Measures: Implement and update security protocols, data management practices, and other preventive strategies to reduce the risk of future incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • System Maintenance: Lead comprehensive audits, updates, and maintenance initiatives to ensure consistent system reliability and responsiveness.
  • Data Recovery: Develop and oversee robust data recovery mechanisms and strategies, guaranteeing minimal data loss and business disruption in the event of system failures.
  • Cold Storage Strategy: Direct the strategic transition of legacy or infrequently accessed data to cost-effective cold storage solutions.
  • AWS RDS Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in AWS RDS solutions and potentially guide future strategies related to data center operations.
  • Knowledge and Training: Serve as the primary point of contact for database-related knowledge, providing guidance, training, and expertise to other teams and stakeholders.
  • Incident Management: Address and resolve database incidents, with a special focus on preventing and rapidly responding to P0 severity incidents to ensure database stability.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in database administration, specifically with platforms like Postgres, MySQL, and Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale database systems in a complex business environment.
  • Proven track record of effectively addressing and mitigating high-severity incidents.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems, using root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Expertise in SQL/query performance tuning, as well as proficiency in performance optimization tools and techniques.
  • Extensive experience with AWS RDS solutions and Snowflake.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, migration strategies, and cost optimization techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and implementing backup and recovery solutions.
  • Knowledge of tools and third-party solutions for data backup, replication, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining security protocols, including user access controls, encryption, and regular security audits.
San Francisco, CA salary range
$200,000$249,000 USD

Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package along with equity in the form of Stock Options (ISOs).
