Inscripta has an opening for a Process Engineer III/Senior Process Engineer in their Pleasanton, CA headquarters.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Process Engineer III/Senior Process Engineer to lead/assist in development of scalable fermentation processes with “the end in mind”. The successful candidate will then lead/assist in transferring such processes from lab to pilot and manufacturing scales. This position is highly collaborative and will require communication across multiple groups including strain engineering, analytics, downstream processing, and high throughput screening. This role is as an individual contributor with potential for people management/mentorship as the group expands.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop microbial fermentation processes that predict performance at larger scale beyond lab.
  • Support transfer and scale up activities for new and existing projects including tech transfer package write up and onsite support at CMO/CDMO.
  • Serve as point of contact for screening and process development efforts at our partner CRO.
Requirements

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Microbial Physiology, or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience; M.S with at least 6 years or B.S. with at least 8 years relevant experience, respectively.
  • Previous hands-on experience with bench scale fermentation for production of small molecules in E. coli and/or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
  • Proficient in experimental design and DOE methodology using appropriate software, ability to analyze, interpret data and share findings with stakeholders.
  • Strong time management skills, able to multitask effectively, and to adapt work plans as needed while ensuring maximum efficiency. Highly organized and great attention to details.
  • Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of microbial physiology and its intersection with fermentation processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with and providing oversight to CRO/CMOs.
  • Experience managing/mentoring junior team members Engineers, and Research Associates performing fermentation process development workflows.
  • Proficiency in using JMP, SQL and Python.
  • Understanding knowledge of analytical chemistry methods for analyzing biomolecules is highly desirable.
  • Experience in profiling and characterizing fermentation processes is preferred.

Inscripta offers a competitive base salary, bonus plan, benefits package, 401k match and an attractive equity program to all team members. Starting Salary Range: $153,000 – $185,000 per year. This salary range is provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
