Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is hiring for a Buyer/Planner II to join our team located in Shockwave Medical Costa Rica.

Position Overview

The Buyer/Planner II is responsible for independently managing sourcing, purchasing, and material planning activities to support manufacturing operations and other business functions. This role ensures material availability, optimized inventory levels, and effective supplier performance in a dynamic, regulated manufacturing environment.

The Buyer/Planner II contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and supports cross-functional planning.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage sourcing, purchasing, material planning, and scheduling of raw materials, packaging materials, components, supplies, consumables, and subcontracted items throughout the production and inventory lifecycle.

  • Analyze and validate purchase requisitions for accuracy, completeness, pricing, payment terms, and alignment with business and operational requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with production, planning, warehouse, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to align material plans with manufacturing schedules and business priorities.

  • Create, release, and manage purchase orders with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with internal controls and procurement policies.

  • Proactively monitor open purchase orders and supplier commitments, identifying potential risks to supply continuity and implementing mitigation and expediting actions as required.

  • Follow Up on suppliers to prevent material shortages, production delays, or service interruptions, including exploring alternative sourcing options when needed.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve purchase order, invoice discrepancies, returns, and supplier quality issues, coordinating corrective actions with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

  • Support the maintenance of material plans, safety stock levels, and inventory strategies to support service level targets while minimizing excess and obsolescence.

  • Produce, analyze, and present inventory, planning, and procurement reports to monitor performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.

  • Coordinate and monitor domestic and international shipments, ensuring on-time delivery and resolution of logistics or transportation issues.

  • Execute and maintain accurate transactions in ERP systems, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Support the identification, evaluation, and onboarding of new or alternate suppliers to improve supply resilience, capacity, and cost competitiveness.

  • Participate in cost reduction, cost avoidance, and continuous improvement initiatives related to sourcing, planning, and inventory management.

  • Provide guidance and day-to-day support to junior Buyer/Planner roles as needed, sharing best practices and standard work.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or equivalent.

  • 2 – 4 years of experience in buying, material planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations; experience in a regulated environment (medical device, pharmaceutical, or similar) preferred.

  • Ability to work with diversified supplier base and high-mix production environment.

  • Cost accounting understanding/experience.

  • Strong team player capable of working individually as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to build relationships at all levels within the internal organization and external suppliers / vendors.

  • Working knowledge of quality system requirements and compliance (e.g. traceability, QSRs, ISO, MDD requirements) preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
