BACKEND / DATABASE ENGINEER - EL SEGUNDO, CA
As a Backend Engineer on our Advanced Technology Team, you will take part in designing, developing and integrating the backend infrastructure for our ground stations and centralized AI platform. This role will focus on developing robust, scalable backend services that power our current and future SkyOS framework and enable users to securely deploy, manage, and access SkyOS agents through unified APIs and user interfaces. You will be given projects and tasks to develop new features, enhance throughput, and optimize architecture for this flight enhancing capability.
This is a full-time onsite opportunity based out of El Segundo, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement scalable websockets and RESTful APIs endpoints for the AI platform.
- Design and develop SDKs that provide intuitive interfaces for teams to interact with the groundstations and AI platforms.
- Build robust backend services to handle agent lifecycle management, deployment, and monitoring.
- Develop secure authentication and authorization systems supporting multi-tenant architecture.
- Understand how an agentic solution works and create efficient data access layers and database schemas that enable AI agents to interact with various internal data sources.
- Implement asynchronous task processing systems for handling variable-latency agent operations.
- Lead technical discussions and help set the technical vision for our backend roadmap.
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements across the software development lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance on backend architecture and SDK design best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in developing backend frameworks
- Backend development experience building scalable applications and APIs.
- Strong experience with Kafka/AWS Kinesis, Relational Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), Time-Series Databases (InfluxDB, Prometheus, Amazon Timestream), and NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Strong programming skills in Python or Rust
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in building large-scale distributed systems and microservices.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proven experience developing and maintaining SDKs or client libraries for internal or external usage.

The posted salary range reflects the potential base pay for this role, adjusted to account for varying geographic markets. Final compensation will be based on factors such as your location, job-related skills, experience, and internal alignment, including equity and benefits.
