About The Role
The Safety Specialist will provide comprehensive environmental health and safety (EHS) support for one of the nation’s premier research organizations, focused on developing a compact, cost-effective commercial fusion power source. This is a full-time position requiring a proactive approach to maintaining workplace safety and ensuring compliance with EHS standards.
- Maintain a Safe Worksite: Perform daily site walks, conduct risk assessments, and facilitate EHS communications to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct Inspections: Regularly inspect workplaces to evaluate compliance with EHS standards and identify hazards.
- Recommend Corrective Measures: Document and propose corrective actions for identified safety risks.
- Project Oversight: Provide guidance on EHS-related matters for ongoing projects.
- Promote Safety Culture: Engage with management, employees, and contractors to foster a positive safety culture.
- Train Employees: Develop and deliver safety training programs to ensure employee knowledge of safety protocols.
- Professional Interaction: Communicate professionally with employees, vendors, and other stakeholders to maintain safety.
- Other Duties: Perform additional safety-related tasks as assigned to support organizational goals.
About You
- 3-5 years of experience in health and safety roles, preferably in a laboratory or research setting.
- Proven experience managing chemical waste and hazardous materials.
- Experience delivering safety training, including toolbox talks, and conducting risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA, Cal OSHA, Cal CUPA, and other regulatory compliance standards.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and hazardous materials handling.
- Ability to prioritize safety projects and perform duties with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable conducting large group safety training and working with diverse teams.
- Reliable transportation to ensure timely travel between offices (Irvine & Foothill Ranch) as needed.
- Certifications such as GSP, ASP, CSP (BCSP), CSMC, CEM, or EHS (NASP) are a strong plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a safety-related discipline (equivalent experience may be considered).
At TAE Technologies, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non-Sr., Sr., Lead or Manager). The compensation range for these roles are $80,000-$100,000.
